The Mesa Area in Santa Barbara
The Mesa, a Spanish word that means "table", is a location in Santa Barbara that is the flat elevated ocean front along Santa Barbara's southwestern border. Stretching from the Santa Barbara City College on the east and extending 2.5 miles to Arroyo Burro County Beach - or as the locals call it, "Hendry's Beach". Half of the Mesa is relatively flat and the other half consists of a hillside on the North side of Cliff Drive. The Mesa is an extrememly desirable neighborhood and has often been voted the "Best Neighborhood" in a local newspaper poll.
Residents of the Mesa love their accessibility to the beach via 3 stairways at different locations along the bluff. One location is at Shoreline Park, a wonderful 15-acre bluff-top park with bike and pedestrian trails, picnic tables and large childrens play area. A second location, named the "1000 Steps to the Beach" is located at the foot of Santa Cruz Blvd. This is a favorate access by locals to walk their dogs and take sunset strolls. The third location is at the end of Mesa Lane, in the older neighborhood of the Mesa with it's quaint one-of-a-kind built homes.
At the southwestern tip of the Mesa, the Douglas Family Preserve, or as the locals call it, the "Wilcox Property", is a stunning 70-acre recreation area left in its natural state, conserved as a peaceful space for all to enjoy. Hike through and take in the glorious views above the Pacific Ocean and then watch the sunset at our local hotspot, The Boathouse Restaurant.
Mesa residents enjoy and appreciated the convenience of the shopping centers at the intersection of Cliff Drive and Meigs Road and the excellent school district.
The weather on the Mesa cant be 10 to 12 degrees cooler in the summer and will experience the coastal fog, or "June gloom" occasionally.
Mesa Real Estate values range from $600,000 for townhomes and condos to upwards of $5M homes on Shoreline Bluff and the Mesa Hills. A typical home in the Marine Terrace area range from $700,000 to $1.5M.
